Darkness flees before the light

PSALM 2:1-12 | DERICK MCLEOD

___

As we celebrate Easter and the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, we are reminded of God's ultimate victory over sin and death. Psalm 2:12 says: -

“Kiss his son, or he will be angry

and your way will lead to your destruction,

for his wrath can flare up in a moment.

Blessed are all who take refuge in him”

Psalm 2 presents a powerful image of the nations conspiring against God and his ‘anointed’. Since Jesus is the perfect reflection of God (John 10:30 and John 14:9), opposing Jesus is the same as opposing God the Father. If you reject Jesus, you are ultimately against God the Father.

However, in the midst of this rebellion, God declares that he has set His King on Zion, His holy mountain (verse 6). Jesus the Son has been given authority over all nations (verse 8). This prophecy is fulfilled in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, which established the kingdom of God.

In verse 12, the psalmist urges us to “kiss the son,” a sign of respect, honour and submission. In light of Easter, this is a call to honour Jesus as the risen Lord. Through his sacrifice and resurrection, Jesus has made a way for us to be reconciled with God. The wrath that once stood against us because of sin has been turned away through Christ’s work on the cross. Now, the psalm declares, “Blessed are all who take refuge in him.”

Easter is a reminder of the ultimate refuge we have in Christ. He is the King who reigns in power, yet he invites us to find safety, peace and eternal life in him. As we reflect on the resurrection, let us respond to call of Psalm 2:12— trust in Jesus, embrace his grace, and find our refuge in him. The resurrection is a promise of hope for all who trust in Jesus Christ.

This Easter, let us remember that in Jesus, we are truly blessed and secure.
