Worthy Lamb

Picture the scene: God’s plans for the universe are sealed in a scroll, and the call goes out - Is there anyone worthy to open it? Is there anyone who can reveal those plans, who can put them into action?

There’s a tense silence, until we hear good news: don’t panic! God’s plans will be uncovered because here is the Lion of Judah, the triumphant one! He is worthy to open the scroll.

So the view shifts to this conquering hero...and it’s a lamb. It’s a lamb that looks like it’s been killed. It’s shocking because the one who’s on the throne, the all-seeing all-knowing (that’s what the seven horns and seven eyes are about) worthy Saviour just doesn’t look how we were expecting.

But look at verse 9: his blood has redeemed people from all over the world, out of our slavery to sin and darkness, so that we can be God’s people.

There can only be one response: worship. Let’s feel the joy radiating from these songs, and join with those heavenly singers as we look to our wonderful Saviour. Worthy, worthy, worthy is the Lamb - to him be praise and honour and glory and power, forever.
