Everlasting Father

ISAIAH 9:6 | JESSIE MANSON

Thinking of Jesus as the Everlasting Father might be a little bit strange.

When we think about father in the Bible, we think about God the Father and not necessarily Jesus. The Bible describes God as triune: God the Father, God the son and God the Holy Spirit. However, in Isaiah 9:6, Jesus is described as Everlasting Father.

Regarding the word ‘everlasting’, it means forever. There is not a time in the past, and there will not be a time in the future that Jesus does not exist. We think about Christmas as a time when we celebrate the birth of Jesus, and it is a joyful time. However, it can be a depressing time too, when there are short hours of daylight, cold and maybe damp. But we know that, nevertheless, Jesus is and will always there.

‘Father’, or ABBA, tells me of someone who can always be approached, whether we need to keep an account of something we have said or done wrong, and say we are sorry, or go to him when we have something we need to ask guidance for. This means so much to me.
