There have been some changes to the team over 2020. Pete, Terri and Fiona P have had to take a step back due to Covid-19. We miss them but know they continue to support us in spirit.
Kat and Drew have moved on and we have welcomed Dani and Archie to the team. Jenny leads the food room supported by Ian and Al Mack while Sarah and I man the front door. We have also been joined by Pauline Houston. Her lovely nature and people skills have been much appreciated by staff and guests alike. Martainn has been a welcome addition when he has been home from his studies.
We have remained open in some form throughout lockdown. There was a spell when we had to serve the guests at the side door but otherwise we have been able to manage them safely in the building. We no longer provide the cafe service, which has been missed.
We have been greatly blessed by donations of food and money, for which we are very grateful, and for all those who support us in prayer. Our neighbours, in particular, have been very faithful in their “barrow deliveries” every Friday.
Referral rates remain steady, with many affected by Covid-19: furloughed, laid off and/or experiencing benefit delays. We have seen several refugees and asylum seekers over the year. They tend to be with us for some time, allowing relationships to develop, including meeting up outwith Friday mornings. There have been some good conversations.
Edinburgh City Mission are rebranding this year from Basics Bank to Foodbank Plus, which we all feel better expresses what we do. We are also testing a new electronic referral system - watch this space as we get to grips with it!
- We are thankful that we have been able to remain open, and praise our God for His amazing provision. We have more than enough at the moment.
- Pray for health and safety for staff and guests throughout lockdown and beyond.
- Pray for more opportunities to have gospel conversations, and for relationships to be forged.
