Despite the difficult and ever-changing nature of the pandemic, the Evening Service has remained a great source of encouragement to many.
At the beginning of the year, we enjoyed some edifying times together studying the book of 1 Peter as we thought about being distinct disciples. When lockdown initially hit we gathered to pray on Sunday evenings. These were truly special times. Over the summer we were treated to some wonderful video sermons in Malachi and Esther from different members of the preachers' group. These proved to be a timely reminder about the God who is sovereign! Once regulations allowed for us to meet in the building together again it was lovely to spend time in the later chapters of Hebrews as we reflected on running the race with endurance. Later in the year, we enjoyed a more topical series designed to help us to think biblically about some topics such as giving, hospitality, humanity, creation care and heaven.
This year we look forward to continuing our series in Isaiah and also, post-Easter, to a series looking at the gospel and the different religions of the world. I am particularly excited that renowned apologist Andy Bannister (Solas CPC) has agreed to come and help us think through the gospel and Islam. All of this is devised with the goal of helping us be better-equipped disciples.
Please pray that God would continue to use the evening service for his glory and for the building up of his church at Bruntsfield.
